Keeping Sane–Weekly Planner

One of my least favorite things to do has always been cleaning the house. Over the last how many years, I have usually had someone else clean my house for me. When we moved, I looked forward to once again hiring our former house cleaners (who have also become dear friends to us).

Once we moved in, the first thing I did was go on a deep cleaning rampage because the house looked like it had not had one…ever and I am for the most part a neat freak.

Oddly, I ended up enjoying cleaning the house. Shock, I KNOW! :) It is a nice workout, too.

Cleaning the house sometimes feels overwhelming for me (especially now since there are THREE full size bathrooms in this house) so I created a cleaning schedule so that I did not feel like I had to do the entire house in one day, but instead took sections and worked on the house throughout the week. It made cleaning more manageable and less stressful. I also included daily tasks like taking my allergy medications (because I am HORRIBLE at remembering) and feeding pets (because I keep forgetting to feed the fish).

Here is what my schedule looks like. If you want a copy, leave a comment and let me know. Smile I will happily send you the Word document so you can modify it to fit your schedule.

Craft Room Decor - Cassette Case Refashion

I have a new addiction thanks to Pinterest - Thrift Stores!!

I am on a mission to find items that I can use around the house for decor or for organizing.

There are few awesome thrift stores nearby and I found this cassette holder at one of them.

At first, I had no idea what I wanted to do with it. Then I realized my ink pads would fit perfectly in the slots!

Now, I have them organized by color and can easily find them when I need them.

Easy Peasy–Growing Your own Green Onions

I don’t remember if I saw this on Pinterest or elsewhere, but by golly is it genius!!!

One of my goals this year is to cut back on grocery spending (so we can spend it elsewhere, like a new pair of shoes for mommy…er, well, like for family adventures and such heehee). I saw this tip and decided to try it.

Instead of throwing away the stems of the green onion, put them in a container and cover the white bulb part with water.

I forgot to take a “before” picture, but this is what they looked like after only a day of sitting in water. You can already see the growth.

This is the growth on the third day (the stalks in the back). I had added a new batch of green onions the prior day so those are the ones with new growth in front.

This is the growth after only 5 days. Crazy cool, huh? Smile

Now, instead of going to the grocery store for green onions, I have them growing in my kitchen. Smile

Pinspired–Important Dates of Our Lives

This is the first project I worked on that was inspired by Pinterest.

dates

Armed with a Cricut, a couple Cricut cartridges, vinyl, cardstock and 12×12 canvas (the flat kind), I got to work! The numbers are 2″ tall and made from vinyl. The heart and flourishes are from cardstock.

I am still not quite sure how I want to frame it and display it on the wall. Maybe amidst a collage display of family photos??? Pin It

There’s a new bakery in town!

This weekend, I was on a manhunt for cupcakes!

To my dismay, there were not any cupcake shops in Chula Vista (at least that I could find on Google or Yelp!).

THEN on Monday, I found out that a bakery had JUST opened on Saturday. Sweet Sisters Bakery is located in downtown Chula Vista on 3rd Ave.

It is a cute little shop with a large assortment of baked goodness.

Luckily for me, they happened to have cupcakes. Unlucky for me, they only had vanilla and chocolate left. They had completely sold out of the red velvet cupcakes. I’m not a huge fan of either vanilla or chocolate cupcakes, but I did purchase some for my husband and son.

Instead, I decided on a carrot cake muffin for myself. It was as delicious as it was pretty!

The muffin was very, very moist and had shreds of carrot in it. The frosting was soft and was not overpowering with sweetness like many carrot cakes that I have had before.

I HIGHLY SUGGEST this muffin if you stop by Sweet Sisters Bakery.

My husband and son enjoyed the cupcakes so much that they sent me back yesterday for more!

Apparently, you have to get their early to get your pick of the batch because these delicious goodies are gone quick

When I arrived yesterday, they had ONE cupcake left – a vanilla cupcake (just what my husband had requested).

The gentleman at the counter just happened to ask the ladies in back if they were making more red velvet cupcakes and to my surprise they said that they would be done in 5 minutes! WOOT WOOT!

I impatiently waited the 5 minutes and was soon off to go home and enjoy my red velvet cupcake (don’t worry, I ordered 4 so I could share them with the family).

This picture doesn’t do the cupcake justice because frankly, I just wanted to take a bite and didn’t much care for the formalities of taking a nice picture.

Winking smile

The cupcake, like the carrot cake muffin, did not disappoint and was super moist.

I will definitely be back to Sweet Sisters Bakery and look forward to trying their other bake goods as well as sandwiches, crepes and coffees. I think I found my new hot spot in Chula Vista to hang out. Oh and did I mention yet that they have free wi-fi?
